Hi domain specialists,

Just curious here. I noticed quite a lot lately that Overture figures are brought up while determining the value of a domain name. Especially on DNJournal.com (domain sales section) they seem quite consistant in reporting the OV count on high profile domain name sales. My question is, do people in this forum market their names using OV count ? Do people feel it is an important thing when buying a name ?

What is a high OV count ? 1,000 ? 10,000

We have recently started to list the OV count of some our names but haven't seen much of a response yet. Our names have OV counts of anywhere between 2,000 and 80,000+ (which is very high as I was told) but we are not completely sure if this would help the value.

Any thoughts ?

I think it can be a good indicator of the popularity of the key words in the domain and could have an effect on the type in traffic or traffic potential in general. I am not certain how much it effects the value or selling price but feel it's a very good stat to list with your domains.

Thanks Catalyst. Would you buy a name purely for it's high OVt ?

Anyone else any thoughts on this ?

Yeah I too have noticed the refferences to OV count, but how do you check the OV count on a search term ???

Thanks ... Dave

The OV count is very important. But remember that Overture is just one search engine. The word count gives the number of searches done for a keyword in a month on just Overture alone but it's a fair representation of the other search engines as well.

Here's a neat trick: If you multiply the OV count by 12, you get a general ball park figure of the number of searches done for a particular keyword on the top 10 search engines.

Thanks for that guys. I guess OV might be important for other domain buyers but not for 'normal' buyers unless they would become educated on exactly what it means. I will keep marketing the OV value for now !

Cheers,
Mike.
