View Full Version : Post New Conquests or your Best SCORES Here!

I thought it would be fun to add a sticky for New Conquests or Best SCORES!!!
Since part of the fun of buying anything new - like a car - is the fun of talking about how you found the great deal and showing it off and/or fixing it up.
So let's do this with NEW domains we purchase and want to share stories about. Since there are so many addicts like me here, I know you will enjoy this a much as I do!
NOTE: No Sales Pitches or Appraisal Requests! Just discussions about NEW good names, how you found them, why you picked them or what you plan to do with them etc.
I really don't think there are many potential buyers on this forum
so this is purely for fun and discussion!

OK, I'll start! (You knew I had an ulterior motive didn't you ;-)
1st, I PROMISED myself I would not buy anymore domains for awhile. So I add ones I find to a list and have been trying to force my self to wait, think about them, do research and not make any more impulsive buying decisions.
Well yesterday I discovered that 3 expired names on my list had been registered,
while I was THINKING about them. That sent me on a wild buying spree!
So I just bought these:
BigClimax.com - Movie site or ??? (Porn, no not me ;-)
KeyProfit.com
WyseMove.com
ValueGeek.com (Going to put the ThinkGeek affiliate program on this one and develop it. Love their cool geek gifts and gadgets.)
UniGoal.com
USlocal.info
AllUSA.info
These are my 1st 2 NON.com's. Geographical .info's have been fetching a decent price so thought I would try these.
Going to park them at SEDO and generate some PPC clicks then see if any will sell. Figured even if I only get 800 a piece for one of them, that's better than a 10,000% ROI and maybe one will hit it big and fetch more.
============================================
So now share your latest score below!

The EXACT same thing happend to me also!
I too have a list of domains that I'm thinking about buying, then a month ago someone bought blogsdirectory.com the next big domain that I was planning to buy since google showed interest in blogs.
So out of fustration I bought and self pity i went out and bought blogsdirectory.net and blogsdir.com... I feel a little better. But the big fish got away!
Anyhow I'm guarding my list VERY carefully now, and Im not doing any searches unless I'm SURE that I'm ready to buy the domain. (Some sites keep a record of all searches made)
If I think of a good domain I'll just add it to the unsearched section of my list and search when I'm ready to buy :)![/b]

Funny isn't it - kind of like finding a new shirt you "kinda" like, but arent sure. Then when someone else comes along and puts it in their cart - suddenly you just have to have it.
Anyhow I'm guarding my list VERY carefully now, and Im not doing any searches unless I'm SURE that I'm ready to buy the domain. (Some sites keep a record of all searches made)
Very GOOD point. I'm paranoid everytime I do name research that someone on the other end will grab the name before I do.
Hi Catalyst,
I decided to buy less domains and try to
develop more of them before buying new ones.
Anyway I registered these 4 recently:
10TopAffiliatePrograms.com
AffiliatesArchive.com
SuperBusinessOpportunities.com
SuperHomeBusinessOpportunities.com
They are all about affiliate programs and
business opportunities, and my hope is once
develop they will become 'useful'...
What do you think of them?
Linda Buquet
06-12-2004, 12:21 PM
xmx,
They are long but good and descriptive. They should get good traffic if they are developed and optimized.
The would probably not sell for above reg fee until they get good traffic. Best of luck with them!
Thanks Catalyst,
I think they are quite targeted.
And they are going to be developped soon.
The 1st will be SuperBusinessOpportunities.com.

Just some advice that I should have followed myself a while ago..
I often have quite long surfing sessions and do a lot of investigation in domain names...this can take hours and hours and usually I drink a few glasses of wine with it.. the advice:
NEVER EVER buy a domain name when you are close to getting drunk !
I bought some stinkers in my time and the next day, when sober again, I wonder why the hell I EVER bought that stinker of a name ! I bought a name once that was such an obvious typo but couldn't see it and thought I struck gold.. it expired last month.. it was soo bad, I never even listed it anywhere.

kikkertm,
Your post CRACKED ME UP! And it's good advice.
The other word of caution is that some sites that have tools for helping to find or research domain names that are not registered collect the data. I'm sure some of them register good ones that you and I think up.

Hi Guys
This name has been a good score for me
-- sexyboys.us -- this is parked on Sedo and is getting traffic and a 40% click through on Sedo's advertising making me one pound[sterling]in 2 weeks.
I suppose what I really need to do is develop the site and turn it into an earner to either sell or even keep. The problem there is while not a prude, I have not paid any attention to porn on the net so don't really know where to start. Any ideas ???
Are there any porn affiliate type programs??? Especially ones that don't require me to create or edit the "porn site", maybe just a redirect or something similar.
Don't get me wrong here I am not anti porn etc, it's just not my style.
Cheers ... David
PS. Catalyst, please feel free to move this into the affiliate forum if you think I might get some help there, but I am still bragging to my fellow "Domain Game" players about a good "SCORE", and wishing you all 'good luck'
Linda Buquet
06-14-2004, 03:31 PM
That is a good one for type in traffic, I imagine.
I also am not a prude, but I don't deal with adult themed affiliate programs due to the 5 Star image. I know there are alot of them I just don't know anything about that arena or which are good, honest and pay. Gay would be the way to go with this one.
I would search Google for gay affiliate programs and also check some of the major directories. Someone is bound to offer a template site you can just cut and paste and add to the site.

Not to recent but about 4 months ago I got my hands on a really obsecure domain name that when you see it, you will think, why did he buy this? Well after you see the domain name below, I will tell you why...
Spuzz.com
What is Spuzz.com? Hell if I know. So your asking yourself, was this self proclaimed genius drunk when he bought this domain? Was he on something? No, not at all. I found this domain expiring within a Yahoo Paid Category for Specialty Tshirts. I currently receive an average of 10 unique visitors each day with it.
I just started my own domain parking website, only for my use. Because I feel by using all of the parking services especially Sedo, you maybe or are losing $$. As far as I know sedo splits the PPC with the PPC provider then you split the split of the click amount.
So my parking service will allow me to put different PPC, and affiliate programs on the page. While keeping the look and feel of a real website, and not a link to affiliate programs. I will also add adsense to the pages.

Once again....Awesome thread Catalyst!
I have been away from WPW and I missed it... :)) I did get some finds though and your right catalyst...you just can't explain your good buys to your non puter friends... they kinda look at you funny! LOL
Anyways heres my latest scores
*www.Yahell.net
I bought this because I am endlessly asked questions about Yahoo chat... Anyone that's used Yahoo chat has probably heard the Term Yahell it's when Yahoo is acting up...:))I figured I could put together some tutorials for all the yahoo users... then put up some advertising for my other sites... I dunno it's still up in the air what do you guys think?
Well I got this for obvious reasons... IT was the only G-mail left... and apparently ws=WebSite I am going to park this at sedo and hopefully the clicks will be good:D
*www.Ecommerce-Orcas.com
This I bought because I live on Orcas island... and I figure I can offer buisness listings to the locals...Or maybe I can put something together at the local cyber cafe`
Geez... now I want to go and shop for some more..:)

NeO~1,
I couldn't believe you hadn't posted. I started this thread partly with you in mind - you little domainiac, you!
I thought you would share when you scored your NeO~1 domain;-}
Bad Neo bad...
I know I love this forum and I really did miss it, BTW Happy birthday WPW you guys ROCK! And I did forget to mention my favorite child... errr domain...
*www.NeO-1.com I couldn't get the ~ tildy only a dash. It doesn't matter though I still love the domain... I spent a good part of the day messing with a logo for it... I have a feeling that site will become a labor of love or something like that..:P it's too late at nite, I'm trying to catch up for not being around :))
oh and nice snag Catalyst on the AllUSA.info domain I would have grabbed that if I had seen it first ;)

So far for the month of July, I have grabbed these through domain drops.
CableRemote.com
GroupMentoring.com
SteelWires.com
I have been quite aggressive in grabbing new additions through the drops the last several months. I want to grab as much domains as possible before WLS becomes a big concern for us domain speculators.

Several of my top buys that I've had for awhile now are:
voipproducts.com - not developed yet
voipequipment.com - not developed yet
pcdemos.net - not developed yet
nflpass.com - not developed yet
I've become wary about searching also unless ready to buy as I've had phrases that I wanted to purchase disappear shortly after I searched for them.
I'm also starting to focus more time on developing the domains I've got rather than a perpetual buying spree :-) Domain buying can be addictive.

i was on another forum and the person said "please don't post any fishy domains."
To which I replied, "Oh man, you mean I can't tell ya I just acquired FISHY.US ?"
Hehhe. I actually managed to score that beauty. It'll go along real well with my other fishy sites: http://reelinthefish.net and http://fish-hooked.com
><(((">
Oh ya I forgot:
I also acquired positive-feedback.info through a barter trade. Tho I normally hate long domains, I'm happy to get this one.

For the month of August I picked up:
OnlineTop10.com
KeywordSEO.com
ReportReader.com
In July I was on an alternative kick and registered:
Trekker.tv
EarnOnline.info
EarnCashOnline.info
EarnCashAtHome.info
I've put up a clckbank affiliate site at EarnOnline.info until it sells, until they all sell.

Also own cyberrabbi.co.uk which i was trying to sale to cyberrabbi.com
Wow I've been slacking...
Great names all... Ejrs is to blame for my latest finds... apparently you can get 25 free .info names if you go here! (http://domainsite.com) just proceed to checkout and when you get there the price is 0.00 * don't hate me for giving out this info... I got 25 free so should everyone else ;) For some reason your not supposed to get more than 25... and I'll only post some of my favs from this last batch!
SellMyTimeshare.info (http://sellmytimeshare.info)
BuyTimeshare.info (http://buytimeshare.info)
TimeshareRepos.info (http://timesharerepos.info)

CrazyShirt.info (http://crazyshirt.info)
BadTshirts.info (http://badtshirts.info)&

There hasn't been a post to this thread in a while so I just thought I'd let everyone know that I just sold the domain bidnasty.com. Good ol' adult auctions. =}
I also picked up womannation.com a little while ago, but there hasn't been much interest in it. I was thinking about developing it, not sure into what yet though.

Hello everybody,
I have started the domain game recently and I had a partial success. I decided to hold buying domains too but I couldn't, it seems that I have turned to a domain buying adict or that I love shopping much. Recently I targeted new technologies domains, so I registered the following:
64bits.biz
64bitservers.us
64bitsoftware.us
64bittools.com
64forum.com
64software.net
buyps3.net
buyps3games.net
intel64.net
longhorndownloads.com
luxurypcs.com
playstation3games.us
ps2gamessite.com
ps3console.net
ps3demos.net
ps3downloads.net
ps3forum.net
ps3hardware.net
ps3magazine.net
ps3magazines.com
ps3reviews.net
ps3site.net
ps3tools.com
repairps3.com
windows64.us
xp64bit.net
xpdownloads.us
I hope that these domains will make me rich when these techs are widely used.

My best score was getting my own last name. Fleege.com I think itt's quite rare for a webguy to actually own their own surname. I had it for years before with an another TLD. Then I scored the .com by luck not even back ordering it. Not that the domain name is worth anyhting to anybody else but it does to me and it's a 6 letter domain (half of which are vowels...sounds familiar?) - It doesnt mean anyhting so I can make it into anything - but for now its the domain of my day job advertising design & copywriting and serves me well.
A few of my favorites are:
http://www.DomainShakespeare.com
http://www.page1seo.com (same with sem)
http://www.p1seo.com (same with sem)
http://www.comefindgo.com
http://www.cut2chase.com
http://www.goliveforum.com
http://www.thefogcity.com
http://www.funnyhow.org
http://www.BayAreaOnSale.com
http://www.ApprovalSeal.com - I'd like this to be a site that awards and lists companies that are environmentally responsible and green while successful. It could also be a consumer to consumer forum of sorts.
and I kinda like
http://www.BullsEyeShopping.com too
http://www.drugal.com - the frugal online drugstore - Got it in plural/ possessive too. Could even be a great off line drugstore chain like - Cigarette Cheaper - (not that I take drugs or smoke - heavens forbid) But the question is do we need another drugstore. I dont think there are enough corners left.
Cheers - Life is good.

I thought I'd scored some good names in the past like http://www.taxhelpsite.com and others that were subject specific thinking they'd go fast. I've had zero offers. Is there a good way to market them without getting them flagged by SEs?

Hello,
Did you try parking it on sedo?, I've just made a $4000 sale on Sedo.
By the way fellows, I just got a very good domain, MacintoshSoftware.com

It was my main domain name, egtrix.com, I know that I'm very lucky to sell it for that price. But this domain had 3000+ unique visitors per month.
As for macintoshsoftware.com , you are probably right , it gets more traffic than any other domain name I have now (I have 115 domains at the moment). I wish you good luck on Sedo.

recently bought
searchism.com
and urlguru.com
like them both and plan to keep & use them. Also registered a bunch of geographical portal type domains with hit +location+.com Haven't had much interest yet but I am hopeful. I think they are great as hit is such a good online and offline word. For example:
hitnewyork.com or better yet hitny.com
hitaustralia.com
hitsanfrancisco.com
hittoronto.com
hithawaii.com
Also (just for fun) got 3 where a rock is a prominent feature of the location: Singular and plural.

It's amazing when you come up with a domain name, listening to the news while working I heard about how NASA has helped with the new technology for a home cancer test kit to be on the market in 2 years and my brain said. "Domain Names"
homedetectionkit.com
breastcancerhomedetection.com
cancerdetectionkit.com
cancerselfdetectionkit.com
selfdetectionkit.com
There are little long for my normal purchases but "The ticket never bought can't win".
Hay all ;)
Catalyst where o where have you gone? I miss playing the game... but quite honestly I'm going to need to sell some of my TLD's before I start buying a ton more...
here's my latest grab www.NeO1SEO.com
I tried to buy neoseo but it was taken... and I've been using this name forever so it worked for me :D hopefully if I market it right I'll get plenty of type in traffic!

I started investing in .TV domains. I think that the best one I bought would be sexnet.tv
But still not sure as there are many oposing opinions on the web about .TV
Anyway I kept on buying and collected
businessguide.tv
bizguide.tv
infobiz.tv
bizworld.tv
hotbargains.tv
and few more
Trying to sell them on sedo, but so far no luck
I also like my recent purchase maxseo.net and justseo.net (and they come in .info)

Very GOOD point. I'm paranoid everytime I do name research that someone on the other end will grab the name before I do.
Do you mean when you do a whois domain search? Who can see it, a potential buyer like you? Can you see when other people make a search? I've probably misunderstood you. Please put me straight on this one.
I'm relatively new to domain name playing, but have been pretty pleased with some of my recent purchases--
hotrodnut.com
ratrodnut.com
weddingdaygallery.com
For a friend who needed a great name for a php script he's developing I found:
maxlocate.com and .org
but my favorite is:
kickasstemplate.com
And thanks for the steer on Sedo. I had NO CLUE! I think I'm gonna have some fun with this.

Wow, what a list!!!
I only have a couple domain names but my best is easily
www.coinsncurrency.com
I was looking for a domain for an auction site and just typed in "coin currency" on whois.sc and grabbed it right away.
the latest domain i buy is www.gamersplaza.com and www.hilariousjoke.net.Both thru auction.

Hi Folks,
I keep buying domains with a view to developing them, but always end up buying more domains than I have time to develop.
Here are some of the recent ones :
BrightonDelivery.com - Bought after a night out on the town, got home and started some work ... Got hungry but could not be bothered to cook so started to look for somewhere to order delivered food :)
PointlessTrivia.com - I enjoy 'silly' sites and facts so thought this would be a good one to work on.
SillyPhrases.com (.net / .org ), WeirdPhrases.com ( .net ), QuirkyPhrases.com, KookyPhrases.com - Similar to above reason.
Other interesting stories :
TotalSki.com - Picked this up from an expired list several years ago with a view to developing ( as I was into skiing ), parked it and it did ok so concentrated on others. Since then it has remained parked and consistantly earns around $15 to $20 a month.
AsiaRegistry.com - Had this for a couple of years, was comming up to expiry and was going to let it go .... But then sold it for $2k through Sedo :)
Currently I have 25 sites that are developed or I am in the middle of developing, about another 40 domains I have plans for and 75ish domains that I don't really plan on doing anything with.
So many sites, so little time :)
All the best.
Richard

I've read through these posts and you people are giving me a fever. I really never thought about buying/selling/developing domains. Well, developing maybe. I have found I seem to have a slight addiction as of late. I have 11 domains right now but not all developed.
What do you guys think of these and do you feel I may have a nack for creating domain names. Don't make me cry. ;)
coffeesage.com (developed)
randomopinion.com (was developed)... my goldmine name I think
pompets.com (undeveloped
)
ragingpepper.com (undeveloped)
choc-o-late.com (undeveloped)
blogcetra.com (once was developed and used to have a 6/10pr)
stickpet.com (more or less undeveloped)
2tails.com (original domain and semi developed)
acandyblog.com (new domain and undeveloped)
foodiespantry.com (new and trying to develope)
familygaltv.com (trying to develope.) I had to go with a similarity of familyguytv.com for this one hoping it would pan out.
