Hi everyone,
This is my first post after been reading through these forums for about 2 weeks now.

I run a network of different sites on different topics and LOTS of different content. I am currently only using adsense on one of my sites which is VERY new and barely functional. Theres a lot of work left.

I have only been a member of google adsense for about 3 weeks now, but using that great channels feature, I have noticed that certain ads generate MASSIVE income. Which means that google must be charging extorsionate amounts for the clicks on that particulat subject/keyterm range. (I am aware it is based on CTR too!)

My question is, what would be the subjects that cost most per click for advertisers. I know it would be a popular (Oviously) topic like hosting, but has anyone got any ideas OTHER than hosting? I am planning on building more pages designed to attract higher-cost keywords.

I dont have an adwords account, just an adsense account. Can anyone shed some light on the highest CPC words/market?

(I am not intending to scam google in any way, I am just wondering if there is any aspect I can imporve on to increase revenue.

Thanks
Dave

I think the highest are going to be any type of porn, online gaming, credit card, web hosting, web design. Think of terms that are very technology or internet related that it would be very hard to rank well naturally in the SERPS. These are going to be the highest cost.

An easy way to check is to use overture.

www.overture.com

There you can type a keyword then click search. Then in the upper right hand corner there's a link "view max bid" or something like that.

You can try a few keywords for fun.

I think a website dedicated to reviewing hosting companies would do real well for not only adsense income but affiliate income as well.

If you're looking for high-per-click terms, it's not that difficult to find some that are over $50 a click.

Some of the very very niche-y areas have lots of competition but not much traffic (maybe 2-3 clicks a day).

I think Bill makes an excellent point.

There is always a trade-off between price and frequency

I wouldn't recommend hunting for the highest prices...and secondly, I think the prices you see are for ads listed on top of the Yahoo search results, and will differ from those listed on individual sites. Meaning they will be substantially lower. I know data recovery was a huge one, and an asbestos cancer as well. But you better have some content to match. And don't forget the 1000s of people that already thought of this idea already.

I agree with scot184 about content. You will have to create content that will get you traffic for free before you'll be able to convert it to $$. But I think there is quite a bit of room in the market place.

Better to focus on something you know about unless you're in a position to hire content writers or take the time to learn something new yourself.

I've re-thought this, and thought about it some more after that, and then made some considerations. =)

But seriously I think there definitely is quite a range of what you can earn with relevant keywords.

Most sites that deliver any type of content will have at least a few high paying keywords. The trick is to target that SINGLE keyword as best you can...i.e. making a single page solely about that keyword and providing reasonable, quality content about it. It's similar to an affiliate approach where you see better performance when you sell the product on your site before you send the visitor to the merchant site. Do not just make a page about asbestos and say click below. Talk about it. Provide content and interesting facts and then provide discrete links next to it and hope for the best. That way you run a legitimate service and give visitors a reason to click.

When it comes down to it, it isn't about making a quick buck or using trickery. It's about research and maximizing your earnings potential by studying your niche market and offering your customers something worthwhile that will also serve your needs to the fullest as well.

It's called business.

Overture and Google do not permit ads for porn or gambling - they used to, and these were probably the highest bidded terms on there ($30-$50) but not no longer.

Another issue to consider is the fact that Google recently announced that ads relevant to content pay more than ads that don't necessarily match the site content but somehow ended up there anyways. So if you want to add a cancer section to your site about web hosting, better rethink that...

The key to any good search engine optimization program is identifying keywords or phrases relevant to your company and then ranking them on their popularity and competitiveness.

Thanks for all the replies.

I am not trying to make a cheap buck and I certainly am not trying to defraud the main players.

Basically, I have a lot of sites and I also invest in buying sites. I was only wondering what would be the best content site to invest in as I am quite good at SEO and know I could maximize my revenues through that.

I found out that with google adwords, if you start to sign up for an account, it will give the CPC to advertisers for specific keywords. Some are REALLY high and have gotten a lot of great ideas.

I already have a small webmasters portal and am making more than I thought possible already with adsense. Lets hope this only gets better!

Thanks again everyone for your great ideas.

Great site.

How long have you been earning the big money the site claims in the case studies.

Do you have content providers on staff?

Currently the highest keyword is mesothelioma and asbestos-cancer they are both worth $100.

You can check it with Overture Bid Tool

Here are some of the more expensive keywords:
http://www.jonnygoodboy.com/index.php?cat=2

One of the keywords that is quite expensive is $99.99 Conference Calling.

But it looks like that is only theory.

I built a site: Conference Calling (http://www.jonnygoodboy.com/Conference_Calling/index.html) , put adsense on it and then drove traffic to it using adwords.

Result:
1. the amount of traffic is neglectable.
2. the test resulted in 4 paid clicks

But the most interesting thing: the revenue that I received is way way way less than the theoretical value.

Google does not allow me to tell you how much it actually was. But if it would be highly profitable, I would probably not share it with anybody and just do it.

Hope this helps.

Yes... google does not tell you what percentage you are getting as that is [I think] calculated dynamically. There would be various factors involved like

* The main keyword of YOUR site [Where the ad is placed]
* The conversion tracking of the ad. [That is whether the ad was converted by the advertisers terms. Advertisers use a conversion-tracking tool that helps them calculate the ROI]
* Many a times an ad just creeps in even when it is not related to the page very directly. You'll get paid less for that.
* It is also possible that the page rank plays a vital role in the percentage amount you'll earn.
