I believe I have stumbled across an idea for a new niche in sporting goods web sites but I have no idea how to implement it.

Basically the site would sell sporting goods to a certain target market but I do not have any experience in this area.

Can affiliate programs support a website that sells sporting goods?

For instance, can I hook up with manufacturers or wholesale companies and drop ship brand name sporting goods without maintaining an inventory of my own?

I'm clueless! Where should I begin learning more about this.

If you're talking about being an affiliate and promoting sporting goods on your site then yes there are plenty of merchants available in that niche. Most of them are on Befree

You might be able to find wholesale suppliers that drop-ship sporting goods at my website: http://supplierlocator.com ...The supplier profiles usually indicate dropshipping yes/no. My website is still growing so you won't find a ton of sporting goods suppliers but hopefully you can find some that help!

Best of luck to you!

If your talking about earning from adding sporting goods to your site from using affiliate programs, then the answer is yes.

The best way to do this would be from joining an affiliate program where you can possibly integrate their product images into your own site so it looks more like your content/products.

Coldwater,

Niche market products work really with affiliate promotion, however before you start an affiliate network you need to have a web site.

There are a lot of service providers that offer ecommerce software including Yahoo Stores and MonsterCommerce. However, if you are completely new to internet commerce you should probably go with a web development firm as they can handle all aspects of the system including design, programming, marketing and getting you setup with hosting and a merchant account (So you can accept credit cards).

Either route you choose online forums are get places to ask questions and get feedback about your project.

Good luck with your idea and have a safe and joyous Thanksgiving.
