When can you buy expired domain?

Hi,

I've got a domain that expired in May 12 2004. I have no intention in keeping it, and didn't renew the registration.

Out of curiosity, I try to check that domain, but the domain is unavailable for buying. When I check whois, it still registered in my name, nobody registered it yet.

My question is, when is the expired domain available for public to buy?
