About hotlinking........

Hi,

So my soon to be ex host told me a couple of times that I was being hot linked whenever I went over my bandwidth.

I recently found out this last time was not true, it was a problem on his end, but anyway, when you do link exchanges & you put your banner image on your server, is that considered hot linking & would it cause problems with bandwidth?

If you provide a banner on your server that your link partners link to then that is hotlinking (they are using your resources to "host" the image) and yes it could drive you over your allowed bandwidth allowance if it is on a popular page x the number of your link exchange partners.

Tell them to download the banner and put it on their own web space. :wink:

I would either recommend having them host the image themselves like HTML said, or even using one of the many free image hosts online. There are some really good ones I use myself such as imgur and imageftw. These can help you a lot, considering I've had images hosted there for quite some time and they're still there.
