This one is baffling me guys.

One of my sites has four pages as follows:

http://www.dentist4lancaster.co.uk/index.php
http://www.dentist4lancaster.co.uk/lancaster-dentist-practice.php
http://www.dentist4lancaster.co.uk/marketgate-dental-practice-team.php
http://www.dentist4lancaster.co.uk/contact-lancaster-dentists.php

but when looking at Awstats it shows hits on folders and pages which don't exist, like this:

/marketgate-dental-practice-team.php/contact-lancaster-dentists.php
/index.php/index.php
/lancaster-dentist-practice.php/contact-lancaster-dentists.php
/index.php/lancaster-dentist-practice.php
/index.php/marketgate-dental-practice-team.php
/marketgate-dental-practice-team.php/index.php

the stats only show one hit on each so I guess it may be a robot. I've checked and double checked all internal links and they're all good, so i assume these hits aren't from a human visitor.

Has anybody seen anything similar and if so, how do i rectify it?

I see those in my error log, I'll get the ip and see who it belongs to, then decide what actions to take

Now I've had chance to look into this further... I'm seeing it on quite a few of my websites... strange thing is it only seems to have started at some point in May this year... is anybody else seeing something similar in their stats? I'm guessing it's a bot getting stuck... but that is just a guess.

I often have peculiar hits showing in AwStats. In the past I have had quite a few hits for actual existing webpages but in a non-existent URL form:

http://www.domain.com/actual-page.html/admin
http://www.domain.com/actual-page.html/contact
http://www.domain.com/actual-page.html/cpanel
etc.

This kind of URL construct does not give a not found, 404 on my website. My guess was that it was some form of automatic scan of my website trying to find a backdoor entry.
