Would like feedback on use of multiple domian names at my site (nametag.com).A site I have had for many years. In an effort to improve page positioning in search engines I

1) created magnetic-name-tags.com, a one page site, describng magnetic tags and linking back to nametag.com for specific products. It now ranks #1 in a couple of engines but can't be found in google. However, nametag.com is #1 in google.

2) created personalized-ribbons.com and moved all the ribbon product pages to that site. (Actualy did this with several products). This ranks very high in some engines but can't be found in goolge.

All pages have a product list that links to the appropriate site. To the viewer it looks as though it is one integrated site.

Was 1) above a good move or not?

Was 2) above a good move or is one large site better?

Could I actualy have creasted a problem with the search engines? I have about 20 more domians I am not yet using.

Any suggestions?

i would have made some subdomains... insted of magnetic-name-tags.com i would have created magnetic.nametag.com and that's free!

I am doing something similar, in hopes of building brand awareness. Though I am imcorporating sub domains more so.

Example....

www.southplatte.com - main site
www.southplattetech.com - computer sales/service (same as biz name but it points to tech.southplatte.com)
www.southplattetreasures.com - same as biz name points to treasures.southplatte.com

My hope is to optimize the TLD's for search engine placement and doorway pages, then link/redirect to the sub-domains.

I am not sure how the SEO works for sub-domains, or for the doorway pages anymore (they used to be good for search engine placement).

You should be fine there.
The key is not to use duplicate content for each site.
You have pagerank for both sites, so you're ot penalized by Google... probably just need a little time and more optimization.

I've moved this topic from Site Design into the "Domain Game" forum, which I feel is a more appropriate home for the post, and will hopefully generate further feedback from other WPW members.

Good luck, nametagx!

Just be sure that you don't create what search engines would consider as "mirror-sites".
You will get penalized or banned.
