View Full Version : Looking for Windows Managed Server
I've had a managed server with rackspace for many years now, but the price just keeps going up and up .... paying over $700/month now and they're dropping the free email package soon and looking to push me into managed email services which will add even more $ to my monthly bill.
I'm looking for recommendations based on your experience, not something you just googled - this is my lifeblood and I am nervous as heck to even be considering moving all of these sites but I just can't swallow any more increases to my monthly bill.
Sincerest thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.
I can't speak for their windows servers as I use linux, but my experiences with HostGator (http://www.hostgator.com/windows-dedicated-servers.shtml) have always been excellent. I've used them for my personal web hosting for a few years now with no problems. My sites are for my own amusement and make no money whatsoever, but they have been going strong reliably for a long time now.
Maybe they will be able to help you out.

I don't know about the Windows server but the Linux server I have been using at ValuHost.com for the past 7 years or so has been pretty flawless and only costs me $195 a month.

I use windows IIS on my own Windows PC for website development and our live hosting service Hostgator uses Apache/Linux so it's not a problem to migrate.
I'd endorse rah and say that Hostgator have been excellent for us - we only use a shared service as their managed options (at about $170/month) are overkill for us - still a lot cheaper than you are paying.
If I were you I'd seriously consider moving to Linux as the money-grabbing ethos is not quite as prevalent there as in the windows world! Why not contact Hostgator and ValuHost and see if they can help you?

We use INetU.com. They aren't cheap, but they were competitive with Rackspace. To me, value is more important than price - and INetU is a good value.
I had considered Rackspace at the time and went with INetU. Like you...this is our lifeblood...and our 150+ customers email and websites. One of the reasons I went with INetU was because of the references I received. I had talked to several of their customers - one that had recently completed a transition like I was about to do and one that was an 11 year customer. The 11 year customer said to me, "I guarantee you'll be happy." I was surprised that a customer would say something like that. But then we transitioned everything over to INetU 2.5 years ago...and now I'm the same way. Even though we're really a rather small customer to them, they were great during the transition and on every call afterward. They are small enough to treat you with very personal service.
Hope that helps!

I'd stay away from HostGator if I were doing any serious business. Try appliedinnovations or hostdime. I've used them both MS web applications (When contractual obligations forced me back to the MS world).
Are you really locked in to the windows world? I'm assuming your a pro and you have a MS SQL based web application. If not, then get off of the windows servers dude! You'll be so much happier and breath so much easier that you did . . .

Interesting... What problems have you had with them? Granted I don't run any kind of business website off them but I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with them.
I knew I'd get some nudges to move to Linux, and I've entertained the idea, but ultimately I just don't have time to make that kind of transition right now, so it needs to be Windows.
Thanks for the suggestions. I've requested a quote from inetu.net - we'll see.

I know sibername company provides Windows services on their stable servers.
The company is trustworthy and there are no hidden fees on their services.

I second aspnix company, They are narrow specialized and have supported all Windows scripts on their servers.
Prices are also affordable.
