You seem to be on your way at any rate. Forum and Directory listings are not a good way to accrue pagerank. They are very low quality links.

You need to focus on quality of links. Please, don't focus on number of links.

If you will gather 100 links from forum signature or approved directory link so, It will not help you to gain page rank.

Try to gather dofollow links from good page rank pages. [Exclude blog comment or link juice]

Even a Google engineer will not be able to tell the exact number of Backlinks needed to get a good PageRank.
Few good things you can follow are dofollow blog and forum comments, quality article directory submissions and BlogRoll links.
It is all about getting backlinks from high PR pages with less external links.

Go with good PR links. Forum postings can ensure you good indexing but its hard to expect a good PageRank.

Getting High PR link linking to you site will boost your page rank. However, everyone know this is tough. By posting at forum, I don't think there are much juice you can get.

Instead of worrying about that, focus on rankings, and what the rankings accomplish.

There are a bunch of threads here lately about why you should forget about pagerank. Of all the things that are going to effect your decisions, that should be one of the very last.

There really is'nt a set number of backlinks that will give you a higher PR. If even it is only google would know about it.

Your best bet would be to keep building links from do-follow sources to see PR rise.

Hi,

Google Page rank is based on back links. Back links are Links pointing to your website from another website. The more back links you have the higher your PR will be.
1. Join forums
2. Submit to search engine directories.
3. Creating and publishing article

One of the most effective ways of increasing your PageRank is to leave comments in quality dofollow blogs with good PageRank.

this page rank table gives some insight.

It is simply a bunch of numbers all tossed up. One single link from a PR5 page with very few outbound links can give you a PR4. etc. etc.
