I like The 1950 Riley 2.4 - It did share a few parts with other cars like doors even. . But I like the Classic English styling. I like that it is interesting rather than Exotic or pompous. It was never a supercar - but I think It would be a Super car to own and go to the shops in.http://www.restored-classics.com/bundy/img22.gif Excellent for country driving on a summers day.
It was quite a mover for a British car in its day.
It was almost a Cousin to The MGY (below)
http://restored-classics.com/bvac/aus2000rally2/images/plymo12.gif
This car also shared parts. Both were made when the early Marques like Wolseley Riley MG Austin Morris Hillman and a few more, were losing their individuality. It was an era dying Manufacturers. The trend continues . . But the cars live on as a historical record that a person can drive and re-live . .

I love old cars like that. When I was a kid my grandfather had a 1950 Studebaker. I used to love the front end on those.

He was a pilot in WWII and he had it painted to match a P-51 Mustang, even with the 'shark's teeth' on the front.

Yes . . Those were the days when someone asked 'Whats behind us" and a quick glace in the rear view easily identified the year make and model . . .
These Days I have to walk to the front of a car and read the label on it. Even then sometimes I need to ask "Who makes the xxxxx?"

OMG, 1200hp, and, a top speed of 272mph and 0-60 in 2.4 seconds! That's insane. 9.9 in the 1/4 mile, I would think that would do a little "better" than that with those previous specs (like maybe in the 8's), but that's still of course also insane.
http://www.autospies.com/news/2010-Hennessey-Venom-GT-Capable-of-0-60-In-2-4-And-A-Top-Speed-of-272MPH-46923/
Looks like the 2011 may be a little bit slower: http://www.venomgt.com/the-venom-gt/specifications/ So maybe the 2010 did better than 9.9 in the quarter.
I can't understand why that new show (here in the USA) Top Gear didn't have it on the show. Ahh, "The Hennessey Venom GT will make its North American debut at the 2010 SEMA Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday, November 2". That's why. Probably next season....if THC didn't cancel it which they probably did.
Lamborghini Diablo (http://www.fastcoolcars.com/images/wallpaper/1Lamborghini_Diablo_VT1.jpg) or Porsche Carrera GT (http://www.niot.net/niot_570/persche%20carrera%20gt%20niot.net%202%20%2812%29.j pg) ?
I have heard that Porsche is faster, and as such probably more risky.
I have heard that Linux is faster.

No good to me. . far too stressful. I would never be able to roll a cigarette if I need more than one hand on the wheel.
Besides . . I would need to buy a road to go with it. There are no roads around here that you could drive that car on. I would need it lifted so It could at least clear an upright coke can. .
Sad to see how the Nature / the Weather treat Australia at the moment Tubby. Hopefully the top of the flood have been reached now.
Are you far from the flood?

Oh yes. that was a nice car and despite the grunt it had when behind the wheel this Ford puts the driver instantly into cruising mode. This is the car to choose if it was a rainy night in the city. and you and your girl want to cruise the night lights.
If I recall correctly This car had drum brakes all round. That is about the only upgrade it requires to be very high on my list of American Dream cars.
Kgun. . We are isolated every year where I am. . Floods do not overly worry us. Nobody lives here, So nobody get wet. The Leichhardt river is flowing So, no shopping this week.
Two locals have run out of cigarettes and beer. . . So It must be approaching 'Disaster' status. we are here (http://www.maplandia.com/australia/queensland/cloncurry/kajabbi/)

Some details you can't see in the photo -- tufted, white leather seat in back that was rounded in the corners, bucket seats up front, and if my childhood memory serves me right -- some unusual type of spotlight mounted just outside the driver's window? know anything about that, Tubby?

It was probably once owned by the first pizza delivery guy. these lights are not unusual - police use them, postal services use them. any occupation where looking into peoples driveways was necessary.
I owned the same car in 1959 Fairlane configuration during 1970/71. The Fairlane had the bench seat. ( three in the front at the drive in )

I have always thought that I must visit Tubby in Australia and Edhan in Singapore before I die. That is definitely on my wish list.

Why would you wish to ruin a perfectly good freindship by meeting me?

Because you smoke or because you are a living isolated far from people and don't like talking to foreigners?

No. I do not mind meeting people Kgun. But you have got the best of me, It is all downhill from here. I do not think you could expect to be 'comfortable' at Kajabbi.
You would probably like ' bouncer ' I have an excellent dog.
Now we are off Topic again . . **Shame**

You and USA have wild horses. It is better with real horse power than virtual horse power in cars.
Horses and dogs are beautiful animals. My youngest daughter has two and my oldest one.

I have three horses that meander through my garden, I refer to them as 'ride on lawn mowers', They only eat the grass.
I am not comfortable with larger animals and the sound of hoofs pounding the ground I find quite scary. We have local cowboys where I live that are perfectly comfortable wrestling bulls, cows, horses to the ground.
Here is an older photo of me with some minor horse power

This is a nice little Vauxhall Victor ( 1958 ) - I had sex in the back seat of one of these when I was a young fellow. I guess that makes it a desirable classic car.
I never found people or cars scary. .
