I check my website stats as often as I can, normally every evening and when I go to the 'latest visitors' part I often get this sort of entry.
No Referrer name, No host name, http version is 414 and http code is 345. Where the IP Number would normally be is a page of \x90\x90, if I copy it and paste it into the address bar it reverts to the Host IP number. Most of these entries have been from the same place, just using different IP Numbers.
What does it mean?
And, also what can I do to stop unwelcome intrustion on my site, I am using cpanel, I am no IT expert either, I am just trying to learn as I go along. I have read about closing ports, etc, but its kinda very confusing to me.
Anyone with some time on their hands who could give me a quick rundown of what I should do, within my servers' capabilities, and what I should watch out for

It's a hack attempt. It is a very old attempt at a buffer overflow.

Thanks Tony, I suppose there is no way I can stop this kind of thing, apart from blocking the IP addresses? Which would be a bit like closing the gate once the horse has bolted.
