I noticed that Google Chrome on Mac became occasionally slow and unresponsive over time for me. This has happened both with Chrome 5 and Chrome 6, and generally took several weeks to develop.

Browser startup and opening of new tabs were particularly bad, sometimes causing the browser to become unresponsive for up to 10 seconds.

Disable DNS prefetching and clearing the browser cache seemed to help a little, but what eliminated the problem was to turn off the 'recently closed tabs' option on the new tab page (with the thumbnails of frequently used sites). The option is on the top right of this page.

I hope this is of use to someone else.

Kinda nice advice, Chrome is slow for me lately too on a PC. I NEED my recently closed tabs though, it's saved me so many times...

Updating it helped me once for a time...but it's still running slower than usual...it could be that I have 80 tabs open or that my PC's warning me that it's getting old...Chrome on a Mac sounds good...

Thanks for the info JV.

To clarify, you don't lose the recently closed tab functionaly except on the new tab page. On the mac, they're still available under the 'history' menu, not sure where they are on Windows.

I suggest to try latest Chrome BETA versions - it's becoming faster and faster.

On my side too, Chrome is just working fine. It's still faster than IE and FireFox.
