Paid Advertising in Facebook

I am trying ppc on Facebook

This is what I did.

1) created personal page
2) Built fan page and promoted it - currently have more than 100 fan
3) Started paid advertising with full suite of ppc environment - both on impression as well as per click basis

major problems of marketing in FB

- day 1 - i get certain impressions, and few clickthoruhgs
- day 2 - it decreases drastically
- day 5 - nothing
- day 6 - I tweak some setting, including the bids (by 5 cents -say)
- day 7 - more impression, and again some clicks
- day 8 - drastic reduction from day 7
- day 9 - back to nothing

and the cycle continues..

Any one figured this out?

Yes, there are some great success stories of ppc advertising through Facebook. We have written about these extensively because we actually have started to recommend it over Google PPC for some companies.

I don't really want to give away all our secrets, but the bottom line is you need to have something that strikes curiosity and will make people want to keep coming back. There was a famous case of Ritas Ice where they gave away free products in return for interaction.

The point is, it is not enough just to advertise on Facebook and then hope for the best, you need to create some community interaction.

True, however, it's easier said than done... at least so it seems to me.
Any actionable suggestions?
Any live examples, which seems to be working?

What do you guys do? Are you a consulting company or some sort?

Ha, what gives that away? Yes, we have some experience growing brands on Facebook.

http://www.insidefacebook.com/category/pages/ - this is a good resource/website overall for all Facebook marketing ideas

There are other resources around if you do a bit of Google-Fu

As with any other PPC advertising, you have to find the niche, the product and put the 2 together. I have done some ppc advertising and broke even without much work. Better than Google.

I see the price go all over the place tho. Much more than Google. So the drop in traffic is because the price has goine up. But then I've seen it drop too. So it is much more volatile. I think because it is still fairly new.

I tried Facebook PPC advertising for my hotel comparison website. I must say it was a waste of money. I got 17 clicks for the total of 11 USD and no conversion at all. I wouldn't recommend Facebook.

I've been doing a series of niche PPC testing on Facebook. So far, I haven't been able to make it work. I've tried giving away product as well as trying to make an immediate sale. No luck...the return-on-investment is not there for me, yet! Still trying though...can't ignore a marketplace of over 500M active users worldwide.

On the POF site it talks about how effective they are at targeting people: http://www.plentyoffish.com/advertising.aspx

And their list of characteristics they target truly is amazing.

Hmm! I've heard the same that facebook advertising is not good. If anyone is planning to get in to fb advertising I would advice to search for some free vouchers online and then use those before spending from your own pocket.
