I use Sony Vegas - you can get great results after an hour or two of learning the basics.

I use Roxio Creator that came with my laptop. It has good audio and video editing tools.

Adobe is the best IMO.
I use Sony Vegas - it's really easy to learn, but I've been hearing good things about Adobe After Effects and want to try it.

Plenty of video editing software are there. MS Movie Maker is bundled with Windows. It is easy to use and has few effects to embellish your video. If you want more effects and capabilities, go for Sony Vegas. But it may have a bit of a steep learning curve. Power Director from Cyberlink may offer similar capability with a little less learning curve. I use Sony Vegas and Cinelerra. The latter is free and runs in linux. Before I bought Sony Vegas, I tried many software.

Adobe Premiere is one of the best ones but it's not a free one, although it worth the money spent

I don't know about best, but steer clear of Nero. I used it for a long time and it was very glitchy. Waste of money IMO.

Adobe Premier hands down is the best. Is it the easiest thought? Not in the least.

Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing, and Adobe After Effects for compositing videos.

I use Moviemaker and it's easy to use and does a reasonable job.

Hands down I would say it is still Adobe Premiere. This program gives you HD options and plenty of control like I have not seen before. It meshes perfect with the rest of Adobe's creative suite so that means no compatibility issues. It really sucks when you try to use a great plug in and can't due to compatibility. Either way if you are using a program see if you can keep with the same company for any add ons.

It really depends on what you want to do.
If you just want to cut clips and put them together, Movie Maker is probably fine.
A step up would be Sony Vegas. I like to use it for basic editing, adding audio, layering images and other simple stuff. It's fairly easy to learn, and inexpensive for what you can do with it.
For intros and titles, and special effects, I am in love with Adobe After Effects. After Effects is 2.5D which allows you to create 3D looking effects. There is a ton you can do with it, especially if you know a little coding, as you can use expressions to control effects and really get detailed and creative. It is fairly expensive, but worth it if you are serious about video.
One of my favorite websites, and one that I'm sure will impress any of you is http://videocopilot.net. Andrew Kramer is a guy any of us could learn from when it comes to putting out quality content, and has the best tutorials I've ever seen. He also did the end of the Star Trek Movie intro with the enormous Federation logo in space . .

Most of what you see in television and movie titles is a combination of After Effects and Cinema 4D or 3D Studio Max. With a stupid amount of RAM, skills, and a ton of time, you could make Pixar quality animation and modeling with the latter 2 programs.

Hello,
I think Adobe Premiere Elements 8 is the best one.
Ulead Video Studio 9 is the best software for video editing. I have win7 and there is built-in software name Media Center. This is also the best video editing software. :)
