I personally think that 3-4 keywords is better.

I think 3-4 sets of keyword phrases rather than single keywords. So I'd go for 'web design software' rather than 'webdesign' and 'software'. Just my tuppence worth.

HI,
I think the keyword density should be like 3-4%. Include your keywords in tile, meta, h1,h2, content, alt text, footer, navigation and page naming conventions.

I think Keyword for the page should be as targeted and specific as you can make them, bear in mind the most likely term your user would type into a search engine. Although it is not always the smartest option to choose the exact same keywords as an overly powerful competitor.
There is great benefit in researching potential keywords thoroughly. massive benefits can be obtained from examining your statistics pages and scouring (for instance) googles webmasters toolbox for direction. .
My own preference (suits my sites best) one three word phrase. Different site topics require different approaches. . in some respects It is wisest to have a site wide plan . . . where each page caters for specific content (specific keywords). . . If for example you target the same words for every page - You are not giving search engines any 'Priority' hints.

You can target around 2-3 keywords on one page and it also depends on the density of that keyword in your content.

It actually differs from site to site. Some site requires 2-3 set of keywords while some pages requires 4-6. So after understanding the requirement of the page, you should deside the number of keywords you should use for that page.

3 keywords are good, above 6 keywords will result in penalty I think...

Do not KEYWORD stuff. Meaning, don’t just cram your keywords within the text and it not make sense. Make sure it has a natural flow. Rule of thumb: try to naturally place your keywords or phrases within every 100 words of your copy.

I always use only 2-3 keywords because if you use too many it can result in penalty.
Too much of keywords is not useful.. Give 1 to 3 thats enough. But those keywords must be more popular and effective

2 to 3% is ideal. That means if you have a 100 word content you main keyword should appear 2-3 times. More than 5% is not advisable.

I am sorry, I have to say this might be the most absurd post I've ever seen. How could there possibly be a penalty for more than even 20 keywords? Please explain.

How many wrong answers... There is no such a thing... There are no numbers...
You can target even 200 keywords if you can get enough links for that keywords...
The more primary keywords - harder top on-site optimize...
