Google puts photos on search background (http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2010/06/10/google-picture-background.html?ref=rss)

Anyone doing a search on Google Thursday found that the usual simple white background of the search engine's homepage was being replaced with full screen colour photos.

The new look will last just 24 hours, according to Google's official blog.

The photo background is meant to promote a new feature — announced last week — that allows users to customize the Google homepage with their own favourite photos or images.
Google said it will rotate the pictures throughout the day. Some of the photos being used as backgrounds are pictures of works by sculptors, artists and photographers.

Photos on search background gives an impression of colorful search.
I think Google is taking ideas from Microsoft's BING.

It reminded me of bing when I went on! Thought I'd went on the wrong engine at first lol.

Personally I didnt like it, for me that fact Google has nothing but a white background and search box is part of the appeal.

I quite liked it, I havent checked, but if there is a way that you can let Google just choose a random image I might go for that, as that was kind of interesting to see what would come up next. The first image I got was a swamp...luckily it quickly changed to some brightly coloured inflatable elephants.

was horrible, they tried it for just one day thankfully. I think it was trying to look like Bing. I, and many other people, like Google cecause it's clean and simple. I hope they don't make it permanent!

This seemed like a poor move on Google's front, it now makes them look as thought they might be slightly scared of the Bing thing, not a confident move by Google in my eyes.

Bing's colorful search is a permanent one. But whereas in Google, you can change the background (only if you want).
In this way, Google has advantage of catering the service to both type of visitors.
