Default Inserting Big5 charatcters into MySQL

Hi Crew,

It has been a while.

I was hoping that someone may be able to help me:

I'm trying to insert Chinese and Korean fonts into MySQL database via Navicat. The process is as follows:

1. I copy and paste the characters from a Word.doc to Dreamweaver. I have already set my encoding at this point to 'chinese traditional (Big5)'. The characters look fine in the Dreamweaver viewer.

2. I copy and paste the html to a MySQL cell using Navicat. The characters look fine until i save the database, and then '???' appear in place of the chinese characters.

3. I noticed that dreameaver does not use special html characters to display chinese text when set to Big5. It seems to just know and display the chinese characters as it would normal alphanumeric characters.

Note: My website headers use php to toggle encoding values based on language selected by the user.

Any input would be much appreciated...

Regards,
Scott

Is the web page that you are outputting the data on correctly identifying itself as being encoded in Big5? IE, if you are viewing the data in PHPMyAdmin, which I believe uses 8859, you would see question marks.

ETA: Oh, also, what type of field is the data going into? VARCHAR, TEXT, etc?

I don't know whether your problem was solved, but there is a related thread here:
