Default Simple php tutorials ???

I'd love to be able to code my site using php.
I'd like to have it so that all my content etc was stored in my MySQL database, and it was acessed by the php pages etc.. Ive read that this way you only have a couple of pages of actual html the rest is in php. Meant to be super streamlined and definately the way of the future.

My problem is that although I have a good solid working knowledge of html and css, I can't seem to make sense of php. I've worked through the tutorials at www.w3schools.com and understand what they are saying, but It hasn't gotten me any closer to being able to create my own site using php.

If anyone could share or reccomend some good tutorials, articles, boks, whatever that could point me in the right direction, i'd be incredibly greatful. I'm especially after tutorials that are easy to understand by a silly blonde newbie!!

Thanx guys

I code in ASP, but wanted to start on php as well. Found a number of tutorials, with these catering to the beginner.

Devshed has a few very good more indepth tutorials.

Thanks Heaps guys...

Ive seen many sites that are similar to mine that are now using php - and storing the content in a mysql database, and their sites work well..

From what I understand it will be a bit of work to get it all up and running, but then in the future when I want to change the layout etc, it will be super easy.

Y - your post wasn't too long, its great, I'm only new here too, and have found it super helpful. Its great to see a fellow aussie on the boards, oh how I wish I were in Brisbane rather than sydney

SijPie - thanks so much for those links. I've tried searching google but havent found much that I understand - as Ive never written any kind of programming, only html, Ive found that it is always best to have a tutorial recommended than trying to sift through the not so helpful ones on google.

You guys rock
Thanks a million

Violet no probs,
yeah brisbane is nice(i like sydney as well).. In regards to starting with php just try to do simple things first like displaying some text and so on(just so you get the hang of how it all works).. then break your project up into very small part and start attacking them bit by bit... Otherwise for a new coder it will seem very hard(and you will just give up).... I remeber my early day of php i spent nights trying to solve simple problems... But the more i did this the easier it got...

over all it is a good language to use...

take care Y
I hope this helps..

For mysql, I've written A Crash Course in using MYSQL in PHP, the only problem, this tutorial presumes a knowledge of basic PHP, but you might still manage.

Also PHP is a really easy language, and you should pick it up fairly quickly.

After you have read webmasterbrain's tutorial, you might want to read/try this tutorial from PHP Freaks on creating a membership system with PHP and MySQL. I used it for my first system and it worked very well.

Oh my, lol, I just noticed the initial post was from April 2004. I guess my link might be helpful for anyone though...

:D
