Default DUportal Pro 3.4 SQL??

I am considering purchasing DUportal Pro 3.4 SQL available through DuWare at http://www.duware.com/products/detai...tal%20&%20Site

and I wondered if anyone has any experiences with using this product. It lacks a lot of functionality that I want but is customizable enough to use it as a base platform.

I am not a webmaster/designer and cannot afford one so I am looking for something simple for a novice to use.

Any comments about this product would be appreciated.

Default DU Portal

As you say, it lacks a lot of functionality, like most DU products, they are o.k. unless you're really serious about what you want to do.

Go to http://www.opensourcecms.com and try some of the seriously good CMS. I'd recommend highly Mambo and E107. Both have good support, are EASY to install and have heaps of add-ons. So save yourself $149 and go with the Open Source guys, it's well worth it.

Have fun![/url]

Gonna side with freddieb on this one.

Also, looks like DUportal is for Windows, whereas most open-source programs, as freddie pointed out... run on unix. So that could be of importance to you.

Default Portal CMS

I've got nothing against DU products, they're fine for basic stuff and yes, they run on a Windows server with Access databases.

The PHP CMS run on Unix, Apache, Windows and use MySQL databases, very robust, although security can be a problem with many PHP scripts, Mambo is now, pretty secure and likewise E107.

I run on a Windows server and Mambo & E107 run like a dream on Windows with PHP. Also, you don't have to worry with Unix permissions commands, which can throw some people.

I took a shot at that and there are server configuration issues. Dependant on what you want from your system take a look at osnukelite. It has a forum and shopping cart built in and runs a pretty standard server config. I may be correct in specifying just 'globals on'. Few mods free to download already too. They have had probs with one of the developers getting greedy and went offline for a while, but if you have probs give me a shout in this post and if you can arrange some ftp. details I'll push a copy to your server. Too large for e-mail.
