Default Article Manager help/suggestions

I am looking to add an article manager to my site so that users on my site can add their own articles. I would like the articles to be added automatically into the correct sections of my site. Is this something that can be implimented easily or will this be an expensive adventure.

Currently my site isnt coded and I plan to redesign the entire site, but if I have an article manager, my life would be 100x easier. Right now I am adding every article to the site individually by creating new pages etc.

Can someone help me with a solution!

Thanks and check out the site (which i plan to redesign). Free Online Tennis Lessons | TopspinSports Videos, Lessons, Tips from Pros

have you thought about using a db to store the articles? That way you can just query and pull up list of articles

Have you considered a cms program, and just adjust the settings to allow the public to have authoring permissions? Many also allow you to approve the post before it goes live. Of course you could set up the categories first. Just edit the skin or theme (or whatever the cms calls it), and just call the posts "articles" so it would be perceived as such.

Joomla, Mambo... Even Wordpress can be set up this way.

Wordpress might be a good option for you? The only thing is your users will need to select what categories they want to submit to.

I've never submitted to anything without having to select an appropriate category. That said, Wordpress is probably not the best solution for this type of thing. But hypothetically, it could work.

What's wrong with Wordpress? I think it would be perfect for this situation.

I guess it depends. Would be nice if there was a plug-in (maybe there is) that was dressed up for the public to sumbit the article, where it would look like an on-page form instead of taking them to the backend.

Oh right... I never thought about that. Yeah you're absolutely right. A lot of article submitters might be very intimidated by the Wordpress write-post screen with all the 'technobabble' that that might entail, e.g., ... ping, trackbacks, etc.

Thanks for all the advice, what do you think of this:

Website Publisher, Article Management Software, PHP News Manager, Content Management System Software

I came across this today and it seems to be EXACTLY what I need...im afraid i would need to basically rebuild my site though. ERR. But the program seems amazing...

Don't spend the money. Give a serious look at Joomla. For free each registered user can submit articles no problem. You can even download a free wordpress component at joomlify that will go well with Joomla 1.0

I use Joomla for various projects and take it from me you will not grow out of the CMS and the community support is fantastic too.

Joomla!

With a little modifcation you can charge your members monthly or do it for free, but this should suit you well.

I've set up joomla sites before and can testify to what jmoran77's saying. You'd find there's a surplus of features, everything you'd ever need and then some. I also second the comment about the community support, for whatever it's worth.

Other platforms would do fine as well. But the more I think about it, my positive experience with Joomla leads me to be it would be a good match.
