Default Web page in Simplified Chinese

One of my clients wants his home page reproduced in Simplified Chinese. He is getting a translation agency to do this who will be sending me a Word document.

OK, so how do I get the Simplified Chinese out of the Word doc and into the html? Not sure what its going to look like when I get it. Hopefully I will just be able to cut and paste blocks of text into their relevant positions in the html. But that sounds too simple. Do I need to change the character set to something?

I'm on XP and have downloaded the Language pack for Simplified Chinese, so hopefully that should help.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Jane

First you need to change the character set to "charset=UTF-8". Then, you can do the copy and paste with the text. But don't forget to save the file as the format with the Encoding "UTF-8".

We had to do this at work with a number of languages and it was a simple matter of copying and pasting. Just don't go trying to edit anything

Cheers,
Niggles

If setting the character set does not work, you can transfer the text to an image program or Flash and GIF it all.

For one of my web pages, I could not get the character sets to show Polish and Greek (partly because my source text was coming through an older version of Quark that did not recognize non-English characters). However, I'm far from being a brilliant coder, and this was 5+ years ago. Besides testing your site through different browsers, have a friend on a different system check the site to make sure the character set is properly coded to override any local settings.
