Problems accessing a clients server

Hi all,
I am having a problem accessing a clients server he has supplied me with the username, WebServer ip address and password. To get access to the information on his server but I cannot get access to it using the ftp surfer software I downloaded to the web. Is there another application I can download to allow me to get access.

When using the FTP program, what messages are you getting when trying to connect?

Are the username or password case sensitive?

Do you have any software or hardware firewalls? Is port 21 open?

Are you sure they intended for you to connect to them via FTP? They might not have an FTP server.

Are you the first person they've had connect to them via FTP? Perhaps something on their end. Such as they set up the account wrong, or they have port 21 blocked. It's also possible they didn't have their FTP server running when you attempted to connect.

hi thanks for getting back to me when using my ftp surfer i usually put in lenaghenroofing.co.uk for the username and have done so with all the sites i have used . But this time the client have passed me on a password. This is what the ftp surfer pass on to me:
530 Login incorrect.

Waiting 5 seconds to before attempting connection
Connecting to 'ftp.gilhooleyandrowse.co.uk' on port 21...
220 FTP Server ready.
USER gilhooleyandrowse.co.uk
331 Password required for gilhooleyandrowse.co.uk

Login profile rejected by server. Access denied.

Did you copy/paste the password? Sometimes a space gets inserted at the beginning or the end, and that will mess up the password. Be very careful about that.
