Default New Version Of The Firefox HTML Checker

As a web site programmer, the Firefox HTML checker goes a long way to helping me write (almost) error free W3C compliant code. However, earlier versions of the checker could only validate basic pages so if you use AJAX extensively, it wasn't a lot of help.

The new version now has a facility to check the revised page coding after a JavaScript/AJAX call. BRILLIANT! There are a few bugs in the checker but it's a huge leap forward. If you don't use this Firefox add-on, get it now. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/249

So if Firefox can do this, when will the search engines finally get with the program (pun intended) and implement their own Javascript followers so they can index AJAX generated content?

Do you use the more advanced FireBug tool that may collide with other plugins? Do you use DreamWeaver. If yes, is it more advanced than DreamWeavers build in validators?

After all: Good to know about the tool.

P.S. Firebug Lite is as far as I know compatible with other browsers like Opera.

Doesn't work with FF 3.x

Is that really true? May be a too effective tool. I need it so I will not upgrade FF.

I got the Firebug v. 1.2.ob3 on FF 3.0, but I could not install the new v. 1.05 as recommended above.

The new version is still in Beta, but should have more functionality than the older version of Firebug - it actually seems more stable, as on some sites the old version of Firebug would crash my browser.

If you have Firebug on Firefox 2.x, Firebug does not automatically upgrade. You would need to uninstall the old version and manually upgrade to 1.2.

Especially if you have additional plugins that are not compatible with FireBug, so sometimes you have to prioritize.

Good to know. So the best is to make a OS restore point just before upgrading to the latest version of the browser and FireBug.

On the sites in question I tested Firebug alone and still had issues.

Always a good idea when upgrading.

Also, if you use the StatusBars addon, disable the addon before upgrading. The addon is not compatible with 3.0, but it will hide any statusbar icons you have on status bars 2 and 3, even if you reinstall those addons.

One of my customers has tried FF3 and it kept crashing so hes gone back to FF2

I tend to wait around before upgrading as i now have quite a collection of add-ons which aren't always compatible with new versions.

Just what I've found.

i love the new FF version, but I have found that it sometimes seems to lag. I am not sure if this is due to my system, internet connection, or the program. I am going to uninstall and reinstall and see if that is it, but overall i still am WAY happier using FF then IE anyday
