I think this would depend on how much control you have over the layout of the site. If you are only able to change content of the site, as far as adding text via a CMS, you will be very limited, and probably your only option would be to use a counter image to track pageviews for the various pages of the site.
If you are able to change the template of the site, you will have much more flexibility. Many of the sites I have seen that follow the model you describe allow you to change the HTML used for the header and the footer so that you can somewhat personalize the look and feel of the site. If that is the case, you should be able to put the Javascript code snippet for Google Analytics in the footer. GA requires no server side content, only a free account and a 3-5 line snippet of code on the page.
