Javascript in French

I have a website which works in English and French. Both versions have the headers set correctly, and the text changes because it is a selected from a different field in the database.

But in MY browser, on a Javascript pop up, I still see [OK] and [Cancel] in the buttons. Do I need to do something, or is this a product of the visitors browser settings?

...and I have just noticed, we still have [Browse] on the image file upload button.

You can't change the button text but if the client's regional settings and preferences are set to French then the button captions in javascript confirm, alert and file upload buttons should appear in French.

If you've changed the regional settings and you're still seeing them in English, go back and click the "Advanced" tab. Make sure you've changed the "Language for non-Unicode Programs" to French.

You may be prompted to get out your Windows CD and you'll have to restart your machine for the changes to take effect.

Do you mean the Windows - Control Panel settings?

That's fine, if that's the way it works. I am on XP, I can't change the language, only the date display, currency display etc. - I understand that it is possible if you are on Vista.

So it appears that I don't have to do anything myself, THAT bit is done for me.

Right, Regional Settings in the control panel and in the IE browser itself.

If you've already changed your regional settings, then all that remains to be done would be to check your language preferences the browser.

In IE:

Tools/Internet Options

Under the "General" tab, click "Languages".

For French, you'd see: "French (France) [fr]" in the list. If it's not there, add it.

You'll have to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

I think this is rather to do with your windows languange settings, i.e. you cannot simply switch the whole windows language pack if you don't have the windows multilanguage disc. This isn't to do with regional settings.

The 'windows language pack' will change everything related to windows (start button becomes Démarrer, control panel > panneau de configuration etc...)

Yes, the first part of the post was about Windows language, which can't be changed under XP, but can under Vista. And the settings that Dubbya mentioned, don't actually change the language, but change things like date layout, or number display - as in UK 1.00 is european 1,00. But he did answer the gist of the question.

The second part of his suggestion, doesn't actually change the language of the display, but, if the page offers multiple languages (mine doesn't, the pages do not automatically change language), then this sets the language that the page displays in.
