Default validating xhtml to wc3 standards

Hi all i have a problem when trying to validate my xhtml code. I have one error which continues to
priciest no matter what i do. The xhtml code is:

<ul class="disc">
<li>Assistance in planning and designing of ventilation systems.</li>
<li>On-site surveying to ensure optimum designs.</li>
<li>Full installation of ventilation equipment.</li>
<li>Maintenance of systems.</li>
<li>Ability to fully integrate control equipment into any electronic building management systems.</li>
<li>Full technical assistance and consultancy available from our experienced engineers.</li>
</ul>

the code produces bullet points on the site. The validator comes up with the error:

Line 85, Column 18: document type does not allow element "ul" here; missing one of "object", "applet", "map", "iframe", "button", "ins", "del" start-tag.
<ul class="disc">The mentioned element is not allowed to appear in the context in which you've placed it; the other mentioned elements are the only ones that are both allowed there and can contain the element mentioned. This might mean that you need a containing element, or possibly that you've forgotten to close a previous element.
One possible cause for this message is that you have attempted to put a block-level element (such as "<p>" or "<table>") inside an inline element (such as "<a>", "<span>", or "<font>")

for the life of me i cant work it out. can anyone shine some light on it for me.

I haven't tested this but if you follow advice from here: Common XHTML Validation Issues - Textbook International

which basically asks you to indent the whole block of code with a single whitespace at the start of each line, it should be ok.

Is it possible you put the <ul> in a <p> tag, or some other container, or didn't close the previous container?

If you could post a link to the page in question we can check and see what we find.

You have enclosed the <UL> within the <H1> tag. Close the <H1> tag after the 'ecs-working-for-you.jpg' image.
