Lightbulb using wordpress as a calendar for the future

hello,

i want to use wordpress as a calendar for future events. That means that each event would become a post, with post-date = event-date. This way the internal archive system of wordpress would nicely put all events in a proper timeline.

Problem is that wordpress doesn't display posts with future dates.
As the name "archive" allready says: it archives posts with a past date.

is there any way to work around this?

thanx

You may have some luck with Event Calendar

I set it up on a recent client's site (not up yet so can't help you much there) and it has some quirks but would probably suit your needs once you customized it.

Old Chines Proverb

Rather than trying to make WordPress do something it is ill-suited for, simply embed a Google Calendar!

Blogger + FeedBurner may be even closer to what you are looking for, as FeedBurner offers a "calendar" feed option that does exactly what you described!

Yes, I've been using Event Calendar to for about a year now and it works quite well. You can see it working in my blog... Break Loose Adventure Blog

Right hand side has the caldedar with event dates highlighted. Also events can be displayed underneath.

Good luck.

As tacimala said, the plugin to do this is Event Calendar. However, it's buggy with the newest 2.3 branch, at least so far. I don't know if the plugin author has plans to update or not.

There are a couple others for events, one of which pulls in an ical feed ala google or yahoo calendars, but that's designed to work in a sidebar RSS widget.

You might have to consider using another CMS for this. Joomla has this functionality as an extension, and so does Drupal, I believe.

That's kind of like mashing potatoes with a Chrysler, you can do it.....but why?
A seperate page with a calendar you can link to and from would probably be best.

hello thanks for the replies.
I tested the event calender plugin and it seems to work great.
I will also test the Google calender, but i think the wordpress plugin will be a lot nicer because it fits perfectly into the site.
thanks
