PERL pass "Perl" crash

The code works OK, with any word, words... BUT chrashe if the passes

.... cgi?keywords=perl

Or anything that contans the word perl e.g perl

.... cgi?keywords=perl programming


Code, briefly, (shortend here) is:-

use CGI;

$cgi = new CGI;

$search_for_keywords = $cgi->param('keywords');

print "TEST==>$search_for_keywords<==\n\n";
