Default State/Province Jump Order

How do I configure a drop down list of States and Provinces to run through the US states first before the Canadian provinces when people are pressing the first letter.

Example:

Person presses 'A'
Order they appear now: Alberta, Alabama, Arkansas.

Order I want them to appear: Alabama Arkansas, Alberta

Is this achieved with Javascript or PHP?

Thanks

Rob

If the form element is written with html,
simply open up the page in a text editor and change
the order of the listing of options.
Need an example?

If using a javascript/dhtml menu, in a text editor,
change the order of the listing in the array.

I would do it a bit differently myself - I would have them select their country first, then only provide the States for the US if that is what they chose and then only provide the Provinces for Canada if that is what they chose. Then, they get only the options they need, and you get two fields coming in for your data to further refine it by.

Maybe the following could inspire you:

Script Name: Multi-Value Drop-Down List
Website URL: The JavaScript Source: Forms : Multi-Value Drop-Down List

I think it's quite right and proper that Alberta should come before any US states and you should leave it as it is.

By the way, why have you missed out Alaska? Got some problem with the north?

'They've basically all said it,-- But I suggest, Combine it:

Your 'List' in DHTML ("Dynamic HTML"), in the order you want, And--

Enhance it in javascript/jscript(MSIE sup'ed-up) ... 'id' the HTML-object and script it ...

Hance for example, 2-letter select the State/Province/Territory/...--[*]

Check a Secretary's Handbook for the USPS-standard 2-letter codes.

* [sample codesnip: <SELECT id=souvereignList onkeydown=enhanceselection() ...>]

Ray.

PS. incrediblehelp ... so green, you look more-like incrediblehulp...!

What if it is drawn from a database?

What is the best method for that?
