Default Popup windows not working, for some viewers, popups aren't v

I have a client that has a webpage with a problem with popup windows not being viewable/available, yet when I check them, I can see them -- every time.

The viewers are using IE 6 or 7, Windows XP, and the specific links they complain about not being available are the photos "Condo xxx Photos" under "Harbor Landing" on this URL:

http://www.rentalresources-ms.com/now-condos.htm

They say they get a "Page not available" reply. Whenever I click on the popup links, on 3 different computers, they always work for me. IE6 has "Block popups" engaged on these computers, but these are links producing webpages that come up, so they are not affected by a popup blocker.

They also work (but only singularly) on Firefox, which I'm not concerned with.

Any ideas of what to check next? Frustrating trying to solve a problem that I can't see.

The puzzling thing is that the report is coming from several sources. Could there be a filter by a common ISP? Are there other possiblities for this error?

Thanks!

A filter from the ISP is not likely to prevent a popup. I think the problem may be caused by different versions of javascript in different browsers. In your javascript, you are passing the href attribute the user is clicking on to the function that opens the new window. This value is "popups/harbor-landing.htm" This is fine for new browsers which are smart enough to add the http://yourdomainname but older browsers (IE5, some versions of IE6) might not correct the link. Try changing it to the full URL and have the users with the problem retry. You could also as a test have the pop up window (which I guess from your description does pop up, just with an error message) show the address bar, and check that the address shown is correct.

Thanks for those ideas, wige, I'll experiment with them.

The reason I thought it might have been was because I got another comment with a friend who tested them out as well...

It works fine for me as well. I tested using 32 bit Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.

The first place I would look would be their anti-virus protection, whether it be on their computer, on their local broadband router, or some filtering their Internet access provider is doing with or without the knowledge of the end user.

It seems okay from here too.

However, certain toolbars and "anti-" software can cause problems in this regard as they can be too aggressive.

Check for the presence of the Yahoo! toolbar (their popup blocker is useless) and/or Norton Internet Security (the bane of the Internet.)

Well I inquired as to some of the questions and suggestions above, thank you.

In order to keep specifics here, on one particular page only, I changed all of the popup windows' URL's so that they are absolute, they are now using the full URL (with the http://...) and asked if the popup windows were visable or not.

Here are the answers to the questions I asked to someone who is NOT seeing the popups:

What is the name of your Internet Service Provider (the company that provides your internet connection)? Bell South Telephone Co.

Are you using the Yahoo or other toolbar? No. Only Internet Explorer.

Are you using Norton Internet Security? No.

The error message that pops up - what does it read?
It is the same as this page, (which is a custom error page that the webmaster created):

http://www.rentalresources-ms.com/er...not_found.html

So the only thing I see as the possiblity is if Bell South ISP is filtering out the popup. Any suggestions?

Many thanks for your suggestions; this has me baffled.

Alan
