Today I posted a new post, the first on page 2 about AJAX and Ruby (on Rails) - ROR in the nevere ending thread:
A soft introduction to object oriented programming. "Ruby? Rails? Ajax? Is this cluster of confusing buzzwords swarming around your head like a mob of angry bees? Then fear not, gentle padawan -- Jedi help is at hand! For I, too, was just like you once: confused, jumping at shadows, sinking into the depths of yet another custom Python web framework while softly weeping behind a stack of dog-eared PHP books. But not anymore. Today I build my applications in Ruby on Rails. .......................................... So what exactly is this Ruby on Rails thing? We're talking He-man and Battle Cat ... well, almost. Ruby on Rails combines two separate elements -- Ruby, the object-oriented scripting language, and Rails, the popular web framework built on top of Ruby -- to form a powerful new whole. Ruby? Ruby is an interpreted scripting language, just like Python and PHP. The code you write, break and swear over is converted into machine code as it's processed. Invented in Japan (hai!), the object-oriented language has become increasingly popular for building web-based applications and useful script utilities." Developed in Japan, in Ruby everything is an object. Reminds me of BETA, where everything is a pattern. My boldings. Anybody that has an experience with or a story to tell about Ruby (on Rails)?

Now I have had time to look more at Ruby on Rails. I think that everyone serious about Web 2.0 should learn Ruby on Rails. If you want to build your own digg like application, you should buy this book
Build Your Own Ruby*on*Rails Web*Applications - SitePoint Books and use / modify the code that follows with it. Important resource: Ruby on Rails

I think I was a little unprecise in my introductory post. Ruby is an oo scripting language invented in the early 1990s by Japanese Yukihiro Matsumoto.
Ruby on Rails (ROR) originated as an application named Basecamp by Danish David Heinemeir Hansson. Related thread: The Philosophy of Ruby. If you have made web pages in (X)HT(ML), ROR development may be the next step befor you start on PHP and more advanced OOP languages. ROR development is based on three simple principles:
ROR integrates seamless with AJAX and is well suited to give you a jump start on developing web applications.
