Default Advice needed on URL address

Hi

I need advice on the best possible way to fix it so my customer's dynamic pages for his e-commerce website so his URLs do not contain any '&' or '?' characters.

It would be even better if we had some control over the file names containing the main key phrase (eg sunncamp-handy-tent etc).

I understand this will be via the .htaccess file. My questions is: How can this be achieved? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good tutorial so I can learn how to accomplish this?

Any help, as always will be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

In addition to modifying htaccess, you'll need to modify the script powering the e-commerce site so that it generates the URLs in the new format.

Have you checked with the script author for a patch or later version that supports this new form of URL?

What script and version is it being used?

Debbie, the method you're looking for is mod_rewrite. Here's a good tutorial on it:

And another great resource to make it easier to do:

Its Zencart. As for the version, God knows. I'm only in the process of writing the proposal up.

I found http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6560 (one of many threads), I think you need to check their forums first then ask your question there if you can't find an answer.
