Default Alternatives to WS-FTP Pro ?

Does anyone have any good ideas for an alternative to WS-FTP Pro 8.02?

I've been having some serious issues with them lately wiping out the headers of my files. It's very insidious! The file size stays the same, but the page is entirely blank. So very hard to tell if I've moved up a "blank" webpage. Really adds to QC time!

The software seems to "hop" and any webpages I have highlighted for transfer are then wiped out.

UGH. I'm looking for a good SAFE alternative--free if possible.

Thanks!

I use Filezilla. I have used it for about 6 months to upload files and change file permissions. I haven't had any problems with it yet. It's free.

Open Internet Explorer and type ftp://servername.com. It'll ask for your user name and pass, works just like an open window.

What's wrong with:

Start > Run > ftp yourwebsite ??? :)

Being that ftp is insecure (passwords sent in plain text and all), I would like to suggest using a program called WinSCP which uses the SSH protocol and thus encrypts everything. If you have SSH access to your website, you should be able to use SCP. It's also drag and drop and navigates a lot like Windows Explorer.

We've used CuteFTP for quite awhile. It handles SSH and anything else very reliably. Like WS, it's well known in the industry and easy to use. The real time code-editing functions are something I use frequently. It's just one of the few programs I've ever used that is trouble free and up to speed, which is why I can openly recommend it over the years.

I have used SmartFTP for a bit and enjoy it well enough. I do not use CuteFTP or WS_FTP anymore. If I do not use SmartFTP, I will use a command line as krnl points out.
