Hi,

I have been looking at this cms recently and like what I see. Does anyone have any experience with it? Good, bad or indifferent?

Thanks

Rick

I couldn't get it to install, so I haven't tried it, but I haven't read many good reports. Go to

http://www.opensourcecms.com You can read about it on the forum.

The best I've tested so far:

My WH company, vizaweb.com runs "Fantastico," a 3rd party interface and set of open source programs that install with just a click. I've been testing out various one, attempting to figure out which will work best in the long run, etc.

I conducted preliminary research on each of the programs, including reviews, in order to figure out where to start. I liked what I saw about Drupal (info below).

One of its selling points was having the ability to use both blogs AND forums.

The single biggest issue about Drupal that will hinge its fate for me is whether or not I'll be able to figure out how to effectively use the Taxonomy -- which is how one integrates the content between blogs and forums. Part of it is struggling to force oneself to do the step-by-step learning curve of working with the manual.

My original notes:
Drupal - http://drupal.org/ (and they run their own forum(s))
Drupal is an open-source platform and content management system for building dynamic web sites offering a broad range of features and services including user administration, publishing workflow, discussion capabilities, news aggregation, metadata functionalities using controlled vocabularies and XML publishing for content sharing purposes. Equipped with a powerful blend of features and configurability, Drupal can support a diverse range of web projects ranging from personal weblogs to large community-driven sites.

Reviews(2):
I've been using Drupal for a few months now as as an individual weblog site. It's been great. The ability to post static pages (not just blogs), the sophisticated classification system, RSS feeds by category. The list of features is quite extensive, making it not just a great weblog but a great website platform to handle all of my needs. Also is working very well as a community weblog. We recently upgraded Kairosnews to Drupal form PostNuke. Much better for community interaction.

The best blogging tool available! No, honest. I use it for bbCity.co.uk, and it's designed so that people can start up groups of blogs together (for communities and such) and then allow the community members to decide what is interesting from each others blogs. Other blogging tools include a good RSS aggregator, and the ability to notify weblogs.com, blo.gs etc. It has LiveJournal integration and all sorts of other funky stuff. Enjoy.
