Default SSL cert and OScommerce

Anyone care to layman walk me through getting this ssl to work on our installation of OScommerce I would be eternally grateful.

Using a godaddy turbo certficiate and trying to get the checkout process to work in oscommerce with ssl, cant get any https pages to chow, all coming up 404.

http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osComm...on_Problems/75

Following what I have here but not making any difference. The checkout link goes to a https page but it comes up 404.

I wont put the domain here, pm me for it if you feel it matters due to exploits I havnt blocked yet that oscommerce is know for.

I have a vert from godaddy, and the intermediate cert named starfield from the godaddy repository.

I install them through the webmanager ssl section, but nothing happens, not that I know what should happen.

anyone who could walk me through the process of what to do with those two certs in webmanager to get a https page do do anything aside from 404 would be great.

Sure, it completely matters, you can't expect blinded help... so does the contents of your config files

Normally, hosts do not let you install your own ssl certificate... in addition, do you have a dedicated ip address ?--

The best place to read about oscommerce/ssl problems is this osCommerce thread. It has a lot of links and tips that should solve most related problems.

Those forums are a mine field of (good intentioned) bad advice, but that thread (at least the last time I looked) was being looked after pretty well by knowledgeable people.

When searching the osCommerce forums use Google. The on-site search is useless. do the 'site:forums.oscommerce.org search terms' trick.

Post back with specifics (even if you can't post the URL right now) if you continue to have problems.

Thanks flood,

I do not host with Godaddy, I am aware of their good rep as a registrar but poor as a host. I have a shared space for this case somewhere else.

So as a vurtual hosting setup I have an option to install a cert in webmanager, which i have done.

I will check out that thread flood though it maty be one ive seen, I have been all over there site and oscommerce forum is a place you really need to weed through and find the experts, though they are there.

Thank you that is one they didnt point out. Granted the cert was bought without checking much with me before hand, but again I havnt seen that point mentioned in any of documentation provided by go daddy. safe to assume this wont fly on a shared hosting account then?

I manage two osCommerce sites with ssl on shared accounts. They just need unique IPs (not the same as static). Many shared hosts offer unique IPs for an additional monthly charge, usually around $5.

I would have thought you'd need it before the certificate could be issued to the domain. With cyanide's knowledge of hosting, I bet he can explain that one.

Depends on the provider.

As far as the configuration of the server, SSL needs to bind to a dedicated ip address not used by any other website.

You will have to ask the host about having one assigned to your domain and what the cost is. Then the ssl can be installed.

In addition as mentioned earlier, usually the host will have to install the ssl for you.

Seldom do lump my dead-ends on people at WPW, but when i did just now you guys stepped up. Thanks for the answers that godaddy seems to have ommitted from much of their documentation.

The setup page for godaddy stated "an email would arrive with the cert" 2 calls to support later I was informaed that is misleading and the cert is 'only cut/paste from the order page, there would be no email coming.

It was ok for me to stop holding my breathe like an idiot.

This small issue has become a real time burner.
I will be back with what came of this pain in the b.

Thanks much all.
