Default HELP...applets keeping me from using hotlink protection

I have to reload all the pages of my site about every other day with the location of all of the graphics changed just to deal with all of the people who are hotlinking to my graphics. I would really like to use this time for other things.

There is a hotlinking protection feature on my CP, which works fine EXCEPT for all of the pages that I have with Java applets on them.

On pages with the Java applets the images will not load. OR.....one image loads but another one specified in the same applet will not load. I changed the coding on my applets to use "code base" because I had this problem when I didn't use that. No difference. Same problem.

For obvious reasons I have the hotlinking protection turned off now, but I am desperate for help to figure out what, if anything, can be done to make the hotlinking protection work.

I even tried uploading -- one at a time -- several different .htacess files with various forms of engine rewrite code on them to the graphics directories: There are 4 of them. None of those codes worked at all. That is when I went back to the hotlinking feature on the CP. And had to turn it off again.

If someone knows what I can do (short of never using java applets) to make the hotlinking protection AND the applets graphics work, please, please, HELP.

Thanks
