Would LOVE to make something like this

We have a HUGE event coming up in May, 06 that will bring people in from all over the U.S.

Previous years, we have just colored the state to show representation and then added the names to a spreadsheet list.

Here we have the opportunity to not only show the colors of attendees, but their names on pop-up as well.

Would someone know where I could get a jump start on this project at?

Those are Flash "movies". They can be created with
SWISH... to create a flash application. SWISH is
very inexpensive. http://www.swishzone.com/

Sure, you can get a template somewhere or even search the net for "free flash map usa" or something like that. Just make sure to use the ones that are free for use or business. Some have a very small credit link.

Here is a simple one I created with flash,

I just put everything in a timeline and added some motion tweens for animation. If all you want is mouse over pop-ups that should be even easier. Just create buttons and add the name pop-ups on mouse over.

If you need maps, all US Government sites (not State websites) are public domain. Just find a good map of your area and edit it to your liking.
