Default Gmail PHP ATOM Aggregator

I just found out that Gmail has an Atom feed. I made myself a custom links page that is PHP driven and am very interested in including this feed on that page, so I know when new e-mail arrives.

https://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom

Is there a way to create a PHP Atom aggregator that will read this feed? NOTE: I will need to patch my user name and password to this feed before I access it.

How do I do this? Is it possible?

Thanks,

Rich

I would be interested in this also. I know PHP, but I'm not sure that I could do this anywhere near as efficiently as a more experienced coder :D .

Ok, let me ask this...

Is there a PHP Atom aggregator that allows username and password variables to be patched to it?

Thanks,

Rich

It seems that no one has any idea... neither do I though, so I guess I can't say much. :D However, I do know that the best way to access protected sites is to use cURL for PHP. I've done a lot of stuff with this PHP mod (I don't think that is the proper terminology); it basically acts as a browser accessing a page. You can store cookies and use the POST and GET methods. Let me know if you want more info about it.

Try http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/ include the username in the feed URL but leave the @gmail.com part out, e.g. https://username:password@mail.googl...mail/feed/atom

I think magpierss supports usernames and passwords.

Yes it is possible to place the feed on to a page, I wrote my own code to do it as an experiment.

One word of warning is if this application is run on a public server then you need to password protect it all as the feeds contain the email addresses of people sending you mail and I'm sure they won't be happy if you let people harvest them. Also the feed cache files need to be protected.
