Default Form Submit problem........

Hi

I've got 2 forms on my site and both have developed a problem.

When I first created them - they were both working fine. The data is sent to me via E-mail rather than going to a database.

I built the forms using Frontpage.

Now when someone completes the form and clicks on the Submit button they get the following error:

FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to this site's webmaster.

Webmaster: please see the server's application event log for more details.

Well - I don't know where to find my application event log. Probably be somewhere within Plesk?

Don't understand how the form worked fine and then getting this error.

Probably a problem within Frontpage or maybe I should be doing something within Plesk?

I'd welcome any suggestions/help with this.

Thank you in advance.

Sandy8

Default All I get...

All I get is a blank page where your form is supposed to be.

I can tell you it has nothing to do with plesk. If it is a Linux server running Plesk 6 or higher, you should have a statistics directory (use FTP to get to it), under that a logs directory, and in there an error_log file. Most likely you'll see the cause of your error in there (although it'll be cryptic.) Below 6, I think it was just in a logs directory. I haven't played with Plesk on Windows to know what they do there for sure.

Default Link Request form

I found the "link request" form at the following url
http://www.wow-factor-gardens.co.uk/Link_Request.htm

Try to construct ALL your page names in a single string, even if they're using hyphens or underscores to make up the string. Having gaps between words can cause all sorts of problems.

When I submit the form, I get a Frontpage error - this could be a problem with your Frontpage Server Extensions. As you're on a Windows server, my advice would be to use an ASP mailer script (see "Programming resources" sticky).

Hi Paul, Brian

Sorry, I posted this and "then" went and changed the page name. Someone advised me to uniform all my file names with an underscore as it causes problems and could effect my seo. Took me a long time but think it's done now.

With regards to the event log - I searched everywhere within Plesk and couldn't find anything that toldme what the problem was. But I did discover that I had ASP.NET and tried setting up two databases.

I was having problems with this as it was timing out......often .......and to tell you the truth I didn't really know what I was doing.

I've read through the sticky that you advised and at first impression I'm a bit scared by it. But I will read through it again and see if it makes any more sense now that I've found Asp on Plesk.

Hoped that there would be an easier option and did a search and found the following site:

http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Script...ors/index.html

A lot of these are free (ideal) but not sure what would be best for me - Obviously don't want to be spammed but do very much want visitors to be able to contact me via a form.

What would be the better method for me to get my forms working again? Follow the sticky and post questions when I get stuck? Or copy one of the scripts on the website above? Is there an easier/better method??

Thanks for your help with this!

Default ASP Mailer scripts

Sandy, you'll need an ASP based mailer script (rather than a PHP script). The script featured in "Programming Resources" is one of the best documented I've come across.

You can always try Googling for ASP Mailer script or ASP FormMail to check out other options. You'll find a combination of free and commercial scripts. I personally wouldn't pay for such a script, but saying that, some do offer additional functionality.

For your site, I think simple forms powered by a free mailer script (such as the Brainjar one) is all you really need.

Hi Paul

The forms seem to be working again after my host reset my server extensions. However, once it is submitted the same error message appears. :-(

Host says it may just take time to populate through which I'm not so sure about.

Going to go the way that you suggested Paul and try and take in the sticky and adopt that. Though likely to take me some time.

The forms where created using Frontpage and the likely hood is that they aren't safe (security) and will probably fall over again.

Thanks Paul
