Hi Meenakshi,

Welcome to WebProWorld! With regards to your request, two questions immediately spring to mind... What do you need this application for? What sort of functionality are you expecting? The obvious answer for any client side application would be to use JavaScript, however you may have problems with those users who choose to disable JavaScript in their browser settings.

If you provide a bit more detail on the requirements and expected functionality, I'm sure other members will give you further help or advice.

Paul

Default Thanks for your Immediate Reply

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your Response. And Its great to join with you all.

Actually we have one Vb.net application. we want to install that application on every user whose login into our site. Instead of storing the Ziped files on the users machine, we would like to install our application on their machine without disturbing the User.

We have planed to included the download Section on our web site. So When ever user click the Download Application
Link we wish to automatically install our Application and Regester our components into the Client(User) Machine.

I know it can be possible by creating the CAB files and download it to the machine.

So please suggest me on how to do this ?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Default Application installer

Hi Meenakshi,

Now that you've given us further information, I understand what you're trying to do. I don't think you're going to be able to achieve this without disturbing the user. If you could, I'd be a bit alarmed, quite frankly! :o)

Anyone browsing behind a firewall would instantly be alerted when the software attempted to install. Even the average user would presumably get a prompt that an application was requesting to be installed.

However, I could be wrong on this, can anyone help Meenakshi with this?

Good luck!

Paul

Default Install it with consent!

Meenakshi,

To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to install any such applications without the knowledge of the connected computer. Even for cookies, some of the latest and advanced computers give warning about any new installations.

Furthermore, it will amount to spying or you might even be branded among the spywares, if you try to install any application without the consent of the clients, who visit your site.

The best way I recommend you is, to take prior approval from each client who land on your site, by simply displaying the details of application and its usage, then to go ahead with your plan.

Here too, most often, majority of the net surfers reject outright any new installations. If done without surfers knowledge, it can be tracked to the source that might complicate your plans in future.
Best wishes,
TRS Iyengar

Default Thanks Guys

Hi trsiyengar,Paul

Thanks for your Suggestion. Yes, is you are all correct. We had changed our plan so that before installing our application we are going to given a certificate notification to the user and after getting the approval from user we will proceed further.

And also I am really very happy to hear that trsiyengar is from tamil Nadu. Iam also from tamil nadu(thirunelveli).

Have a Good Day Guys.
