Default developing a new site, what auction/class software do I use?

Hi, I need some advice, I am starting an auction site that will offer stores, classifieds, and forumns as well as advertising space. I have researched much of the auction software available but am not that impressed, most looks generic and I need to be able to customize the layout and look while still having software that offers all the right features. I have learned that php may be the way to go but am not sure and hear that some of the software out there has many gliches and poor customer support. It is all very expensive to top it off so I need to narrow down the search. Does anyone have any helpful info. thanks Scot

Personally, I would just write it myself. I've attempted to use software made for a specific purpose, but they all tend to lead to a generic site, nothing unique that will set you apart from the field.

Of the suites that allow the use of templates, the template code tends to be more confusing and time-consuming than just writing exactly what I need in PHP.
