Default Which .NET language to use ?!?!

I have several years experience using Java for application development and ASP for web scripting.

I want to extend my tool set to include ASP.NET for web applications, although I’m getting a bit bogged down with the details.

I bought a Wrox C# book and have been working through that for some time now (although I haven’t touched it in a while). The problem I have is that I find it pretty much useless as it doesn’t offer me any benefits over the Java experience which I’m already fluent in. tbh I’m only really interested in the web scripting side of .NET, not the application side of things.

Knowing that I can use pretty much any language under the sun to code .NET applications with - I need to know if there is an industry standard language for coding ASP.NET pages with - is this VB.NET, C#, or something else?

As I said, I’m finding the C# a bit of a waste of time due to my experience with Java, but I want to be able to code ASP.NET using the industry standard method that can then be easily be transfer to future jobs etc. I don’t want to go to all the bother of teaching myself C# when I then try and move job and found everybody else is using VB.NET!!!

One more thing - I assume the API for the .NET framework will be the same for C#, VB.NET etc? i.e. If I learn VB.NET and get familiar with the API then in the future the transition to C# from Java (if need be) should be easier - no?

Also, if you recommend a language other than C# for .NET web scripting, would you also recommend a book as well? Amazon.co.uk or similar links would be hugely appreciated.

I know you knowledgeable people will help me...
