Help finding resources for live chat and real time polling

Outside the scope of my routine development for web sites - I have a prospective client that is looking for features like Live Discussion/Chat and Realtime Polling for questions put out on a radio broadcast.

If anyone knows of resources that could be helpful I would be grateful.

The live chat can be done with a javascript or other scripting to do a irc chat channel with script client on the webpage.. as for polling this can be done also in the irc with a polling bot.

I have implemented something like this is the past and it worked well....
