Default Looking for a directory script

Hi,

I've tried five(5) different directory scripts and none have been impressive. I am looking for a script that allows me to setup my own online directory. I'd like to be able to create my own categories/sub-categories and allow members to pay for a sponship text ad.

Like this directory script to have been created using php. Thanks

Hi there.
OK Ive just been down this raod and its VERY frustrating.
Ive found only a couple that actually work without loosing, hair, sleep and temper.
Im currently using Cplinks (free) - easy to set up and is static - they also have another version Cpdynalinks.
Duncan Carvers Link Manager is good - I cant use htaccess so that was out. The Korean one (Linker) sounds OK but I didnt try it.
PHPBiz is ok but is not static but sets up ok and u need to pay to get static system.
AE was impossible to install.
CP was the default thats works :)
(HEY - cp - a free plug ok)
Here is a link to a page of resources for you.
http://www.internet-search-engines-f...-scripts.shtml
Hope thats helpful.
While I still need to make it look pretty - you can look at mine (cplinks) under resources - you get the idea.
Let me know if u need any other thoughts
Keep well.
Good luck

Default Directory Script

Hi Gregse,

Funny that you mentioned cplinks. I actually had this script installed on my website. However, I've ran into a major problem. After creating categories and their subs, I click on a category and it says 404 error.

In my Admin it keeps saying error message 404 can't contact to FTP. I spent 6 hours trying to figure this out. I even spoke with my hosting company and still nothing is working :(

hehe - welcome to directory setups and the hair tearing.
Most of the problems you will have such as this are in ALL the scripts is to do with the mysql and dir settings. without knowing yours, Im not sure as Im still a rank newbie with php, mysql.
It sounds like tho you have maybe not cmod some of the files to 777? or similar.
I can try to help if you like, PM me.
The cp guys will help a little before they get bored :)
Im fairly sure your ftp settup is not correct thats the error your getting. if you edit out the actual details, pm me I MAY see it - but no promises :)
Keep well

Just in case you didnt get the PM

Hi - ok - its the ftp connection thats not right i think. check this -
1 has the databse been created - can you open your mysqladmin and look ?
If its there then we are dealing with setup paths or a "ftp rights issue" from your host.

2 the passwords etc for the ftp settup must be right
(edit your details out and show me)
Its the config.php file you need to make sure all the ftp settings are correct in
Its the global-config file that holds the settings for the PATH of your new directory.

3 make sure the the mysql logins etc are correct.
Note - the passswords for the databas elogin and the ftp login are NOT the same.
I think THATS where your problem is.

4 is the cplinks in the root dir of your site, ie where you place the first layer of folders of your site. - if so your cplink absolute path is to that - dont add your cplink after that (that was my first mistake)

let me know
keep well

Anyone else know of a directory script? I've given up on cplinks.........It's too annoying. I am not going to
waste 5 months for this. I need to finish up my site.
