Default Questions for Javascript, CGI expert

Hello. I have a potential client that wants a site with a calculation function for printing jobs. Here is a sample site with the type of calculator and scripts he'll need.

https://www.printingforless.com/brochureseight.html

I don't have a background in Javascript, and I'm hoping someone can answer some basic questions.

1) Are the scripts shown on the web site above truly copyrighted? What makes code like that copyrighted?

2) Can the code be edited to avoid copyright infringement?

3) How much would it take (in terms of time and cost) for a Web programmer to create similar code?

Thanks so much!

The CGI is server-side processing code, so it can't be lifted.

The Javascript, you'd have to grab each of the .js files associated with it.

In terms of time and cost, that really depends on the developer. I personally would take about 8-10 on a form like that, because I'd split it into two, but that's just me.

Just to clarify:

It would take you 8-10 HOURS to do the form and script?

And you would make two forms? What would the site visitor see?

The combination of the forms and Javascripts, and I'd also clean it up so it doesn't look as 1999 as it does on that site, would make it take that long.

So part of that time would be the result of me being an anal-retentive butthead.

Simply put, the user would see a series of forms. The first would would be where they submit the job. The second would be the billing/shipping info. The third would be the CC info/processing.

That's what would make the job take some time.

The job might not be as complex as it seems. The Web site is for information only -- people don't actually order anything. It's just to give them the job cost. No ordering, no credit cards.

Thanks for your input. I will keep you in mind when I go out to bid.

And I agree those forms look yucky!

No problem. I was just going on the final form that I saw there (including the credit card info stuff).

Just the printing form itself, I'd say about 3 hours.
