Bit sketchy on the requirements, without knowing what you want the site to do it's impossible to suggest much.

Maybe http://www.mamboserver.com/ or have a look at www.hotscripts.com

Ok, then how mambo would allow you to create pages (lyrics) and search for terms. Apart from some skinning you shouldn't need the programmer.

Or you could use a customised directory script where you categorise by Style / Artist then list the song titles, clicking a title takes you to a full page showing the lyrics.

I'm sure there are a million and one ways of doing this it's down to you to make a list of what you want to be able to do then the programmer can go through it and refine it with you.

I just Googled on "script for lyrics site" and came up with a good number of scripts, this http://www.harlandscripts.com/lyric/ was just one of them.

Sounds like you need to sit down and write things out and plan for your site, what do you want to do with your site? What you want to display on your site? Plan everything out first. Planning will save you time and money in the long run.
