Default Suggestions on guest-book type script?

Hi,

Now, I'd like to make an automated client feedback page, using guestbook software.

Is this something a novice could do? Any suggestions on scripts? I wouldn't want to post email addresses.

I looked at a few freebies and they talk about loading the files in ASCII and setting the CHMOD to 777. So, I'm not sure if this is something I should tackle.

Any opinions would be appreciated. Again.

Kathleen

Glutton for punishment :)
Guest scripts - millions and little to tell apart.
Sorry just now dont have a suggestion - will look for you - sure someone has a good one - free scripts are ok. Make sure its "secure".
CMOD is a fancy name for your old Read Wrte attributes. From your FTP (File transfer Program) - open one of your domain & click a folder/file. Nw usually a right click or option somewher will allow you to view/set the attributes or CMOD - 777 is just "you can read write, delete and raise hell with taht fiole/folder" rather than restricting access.
So - just go do it.
Ascii files are plain txt files - your Notepad is good to look and edit - Word etc will add crap that effectively stuffs up any code.
You mostly dont need to do amything.
Find a script that has a install wizard - that will make life easier - sort of forms to fill in.
In the meantime someone should come past and recomend a scrp - will look as well.

At the same time maybe soemone can recomend a catalogue for me - hint hint -- see my post.
Keep well

OK I found these --
I dont recommend any - but feel free to look and try.
I dont know if they have ads or stiff - but they look ok
You could also go the way of off site hosted guestbook like "dreambook" - very configuable and lots of features - save the setup hassle.

http://www.promosi-web.com/script/guestbook/ (looks ok)
http://www.smartisoft.com/ (looks ok - didnt check for ads or hidden fees/license stuff tho)
http://www.smartisoft.com/products/book/guestbook.php
http://www.demonboard.co.uk/scripts/guestbook/test/
http://go-mega.net/megabook/ (looks ok)

And since you seem to need advice and guidance - this site has lots of info for newbies

http://www.xentrik.net/scripts/
as does this one

That may keep you busy :)
Keep well

Gregse,

The high from "conquering" the tell a friend script has somewhat worn off. Thanks for all the links. I will check them out. I may just go with a hosted guestbook. Not only will it save the setup hassle, but it probably would save maintenance hassle, too.

I can only do so much.... So little knowledge and so very little time!

But, the newbie sites will be good reading!

Thanks again,

Kathleen
