Default Best location for a sitemap link?

Hi All,
Ive built my sitemap and placed it manually onto some main pages to get it running.
BUT - the site is built in DIVS - ie left =menu, Center=body, Right=stuff, Top=header, Bottom=footer.

I would like to place the sitemap link in the footer div simply to control th location of it. My question is - is a SE that drops on a page and the index.php opens and loads the page and divs - is the SE happy with the sitemap link in the footer div and not in the body div? if I make myself clear?
Or should I stick the Sitemap link in the page.php (main body of the page).

Help please - Ive got my finger on the <?include button > :)
Ready or the coffe button to rethink if needed.
Thanks all
Keep well.

Default Positioning of a sitemap link

There was a thread in the Search Engine Discussion forum on this subject quite recently. The outcome if I recall, was that the exact placement on a page for a sitemap link was really not that important as far as SE bots are concerned.

Obviously, if you have *very* long pages (over 100k) you might be advised to place the link nearer the top of your page's code, but for most sites a footer link to a sitemap seems to be the norm.
