Default Suggestions for an image gallery?

Can anyone suggest a good place to get a code for an image gallery? (free if poss. !)

What I want is to have about 5 catogories, thumbnails in each cat. opening full size image with description is same window. all the browse, next and back buttons etc.

I know I could do it with HTML, but all the pages and code! I thought there must be a simpler way.

Any thoughts you guys n gals ?

Thanks in advance.

Default Gallery is a good one!

Another good solution that uses PHP is Gallery.
There is an implementation of this using Mambo CMS, if you wanted to extend it that bit further.

We use LinPHA and are quite impressed.
http://linpha.sourceforge.net/

It auto-generates the thumbnails

and is capable of resizing pictures on the fly ... it can blow up 640x480 to 800x600, nearly maintaining original quality - just try it:

(thats me on the left, btw)
